My Story (Dr. Paul)
In 2007 I struggled with my Step 2 CS preparation. I was told that as long as I could speak English that I didn’t need to prepare for the exam. I knew that it couldn’t be this simple, so I enlisted the help of a mentor who laid out the structure of the exam and explained that it’s not just about interviews and physical exams, but about meeting the USMLE’s criteria and connecting with patients on a deeper, more meaningful level. This opened my eyes to the truth about the exam – it’s not about your skills as a medical student or doctor, it’s about knowing how to connect with people and what to do to pass the exam. Just like the Step 1 and Step 2 CK require that you know how to dissect and disassemble a vignette, the CS has its own set of unique challenges.
After graduating from medical school in 2009, I decided to combine my love of medicine and business and founded the USMLE Success Academy, which focused on preparation for all USMLE exams (Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 2 CS). In 2019, I sold my ownership in the USMLE Success Academy and decided to focus all of my efforts on Step 2 CS preparation. Over the years, I’ve seen countless students struggle to pass the CS exam, many to the point where it caused them to question their capabilities as physicians; some even on the verge of quitting because they couldn’t pass the CS exam. I want to ensure that no student struggles to pass the Step 2 CS exam and my goal is to ensure that 100% of the students who come through my programs pass their exam.
